Massey supports more students in China
Massey University and Hainan University in China are launching a learning centre for Massey students who are stuck in China due to the Covid-19-enforced border closures.
The Massey learning centre at Hainan University in Haikou will allow Massey students to join classmates at a campus in one of China’s leading universities.
Students will take online classes delivered by Massey, with the support of local learning support advisors.
Massey deputy vice-chancellor of students and global engagement Tere McgonagleDaly said the learning centre at Hainan would become Massey’s second overseas learning centre, after it launched the first at Nanjing University of Finance and Economics at the end of last year.
‘‘Our learning centre with [Nanjing] was extremely popular with our students in China who are unable to return to New Zealand. In fact, all places were filled within three days of launch.
‘‘Our link with Hainan helps us to continue supporting students and deliver another excellent on-campus experience.’’
The learning centre in Nanjingwas popular and all 100 places filled within three days.
Haina vice president professor Ye Guangliang said both universities viewed the arrangement as continuing a long-term partnership.
Classes start from April 19 for a group of new and continuing students from Massey’s business school and the college of humanities and social sciences via online methods.
Massey’s students will have access to all the same facilities as Hainan’s enrolled students, including the university library, gyms, sports facilities and food outlets.
