Murder charge laid

A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder over a fatal shooting in south Auckland on the weekend.

Police arrested the man early on Monday morning and said he would appear in the Manukau District Court later that day.

The man also faces a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from an incident that unfolded on Winsford St, Manurewa about 7.15am on Saturday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports a man had been shot in the stomach.

Despite the efforts of paramedics to save him he was declared dead about 8.30am.

Police on Monday named the victim as 32-year-old Leslie Putt of Manurewa.

‘‘Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time,’’ they said in a statement.

WARRANTISS­UED FOR ‘DANGEROUS MAN’

Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a ‘‘dangerous’’ man who has connection­s with two gangs across Auckland.

Tai Rangi, 36, is an associate of the Tribesman and Killer Beez gangs and is wanted for breaching his prison release conditions.

Police said anyone who saw

Rangi or knew where he was, should call 111 immediatel­y or non-urgent informatio­n could be given to the Glen Innes Police on 09 213 8658.
