Queen of the Desert Giveaway

- STAFF REPORTERS

Elaborate costumes, dance floor anthems and a giant pink bus are about to hit Auckland.

Presented by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions and Nullabor Productions, Priscilla - Queen of the Desert opens at The Civic this October and is filled with dance hits like It’s Raining Men, I Love the Nightlife, and Boogie Wonderland.

Manukau Courier is giving away two tickets to the opening night of the hit musical on Friday October 14.

The core cast is made up of Home and Away actor Ray Meagher as Bob the mechanic, Andre Torquato as Adam/Felicia, Simon Green as Bernadette and Bryan Buscher-West as Tick/ Mitzi.

Winners will also be invited to a special Priscilla birthday celebration afternoon tea at The Civic at 2.30pm on Friday, October 7 with special guest star Ray Meagher (aka Alf Stewart from Home & Away).

Green, Torquato, and BuscherWest have all starred in overseas Priscilla productions and the majority of the cast is made up of performers from its United Kingdom tour.

‘‘Bernadette is undoubtedly one of the best roles I have ever had,’’ Green says.

‘‘She has the best lines and the funniest, saddest, loneliest moments and she gets the best costumes.’’

‘‘I’m thrilled to be riding the pink bus one more time, now in beautiful New Zealand,’’ Torquato says.

Adapted from a 1994 film, Priscilla follows two drag queens and a trans woman making their way from Sydney to Alice Springs in a pink bus to perform a drag show.

Audiences can expect more than 500 outrageous costumes, 200 headdresses and a 10 metre customised pink bus when it lands in Auckland.

The show premiered in Australia in 2006, before making its way to New Zealand in 2008 and eventually to West End and Broadway.

It sold 100,000 tickets when it was last here and producer Garry McQuinn says New Zealand audiences were a highlight of that tour.

Priscilla runs from October 14 to November 6 at The Civic. Visit the Manukau Courier Facebook page and comment on the Priscilla post to enter the competition. Winners will be announced on Monday, October 3.
