Registrations open for sports day

- STAFF REPORTER

Registrations are now open for the Saint Kentigern Halberg Junior Disability Sports Day.

Hosted by the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation, the free event for physically disabled and visually impaired Year 1 – 8 Auckland students will take place on November 17 at Saint Kentigern Boys’ School in Remuera.

Twelve sports will be on offer for students to try including; football, boccia, table tennis, rowing, cycling, waka ama, table top games, badminton, gymnastics, swish, cricket and powerchair football.

The day at the school’s Shore Road campus will be a great opportunity for physically dis- abled students to try a new sport, win great prizes and have fun.

Saint Kentigern students volunteer their time to help run the event and do Halberg ‘No Exceptions Training’ workshops in order to learn more about disability sport and how best to support the athletes on the day.

Competing at the event also sets young athletes on a path towards representing Team Auckland at the Halberg Junior Disability Games – a national, three day sports competition for physically disabled young people held in Auckland in October 2017.

To register, contact Maia Lewis, Halberg disability sport adviser, by phoning 021 995 951 or email her maia@halberg.co.nz.
