Best spots in Auckland to watch sunset

- STAFF REPORTERS

Valentine’s Day is today, and if love is in the air, head outdoors.

If you haven’t booked a restaurant, don’t fret, we’ve got the real romantic spots covered.

Skip the crowded cafes and candy, grab a blanket and some bubbles and cuddle up and watch the sun set from the best spots in Auckland.

1. PIHA

Piha might be known for it’s wild and unforgiving waters, but the sunsets are sure to take your breath away.

Jump in the car and head northwest away from the city and crowded cafes to where it’s just you two.

2. AWHITU LIGHTHOUSE

Awhitu Peninsula is a hidden gem, an hour away from downtown Auckland.

Overlooking the Manukau Heads and out to the Tasman Sea, Awhitu is rugged and beautiful - take shelter beneath the pictureperfect lighthouse and watch the sun disappear.

3. MT EDEN

Pack a picnic and find a grassy knoll to hide away in up Mt Eden.

It might be a bit of a climb now you can’t drive right to the top - but with views like this, the walk is worth it!

And you can always pop down to the village for desert if you’re not ready to go home yet.

4. NORTH HEAD

Cross the bridge for the best views looking back over Auckland city.

Stroll down the beach hand-inhand before heading up the hill to watch the sun set. It can get a little windy, so what better excuse to snuggle?
