Leisure centre welcomes new senior programme

-

We all know that the key to staying young at heart is through keeping fit and active.

Otahuhu Pool & Leisure, part of CLM Fitness Group, is taking this notion one step further with the introduction of a senior membership programme, which aims to support both semi-reitred and elderly members in achieving their fitness goals.

To make this possible, the centre will begin broadening its seniorfriendly group fitness classes to make them an everyday option for its elder members. These include the already popular prime movers and yoga classes and of course the invigorating aqua aerobics classes.

As well as the classes, the programme will also include up to three sessions per week with one of the centre’s experienced fitness trainers. Here they will be working on balance and basic movement patterns to increase strength and overall fitness. This level of service will significantly lower the likelihood of injury and will enable the gym staff to provide a more personalised level of care.

Later on in the year, the team will also be welcoming the arrival of its newest staff member, a specialist in senior and cardiac care, who will be coming on board to offer his expertise to the programme.

One of the main contributors to the programme, fitness trainer Matt Bynon-Powell believes it will not only lead to significant improvements in their physical health, but will also have a very positive impact on their social lives.

‘‘This is not only a great way for senior citizens to keep fit and healthy, it’ll also give them the chance to meet like minded people in their age bracket.’’

To keep clients socially active, the centre will also be hosting bowls on Fridays and table tennis everyday.

The senior programme will be included in the gym’s weekly fee of $13.50. If you’d like to try it out for size, your first session is free of charge and casual classes are $5.
