Auction supports marae

- CATRIN OWEN

Students from an Auckland Primary school are turning a Wendy House into a work of art to raise money for the homeless.

Maungawhau Primary School students have worked hard on the play house before its auctioned off to raise money for Te Puea Memorial Marae.

The marae in Mangere Bridge opened its doors to homeless families on May 25 and as of July 25 had welcomed 56 families through its doors.

The fundraising project has been initiated by Harcourts Mt Eden to create community support for the emergency accommodation and assistance the marae has been supplying.

‘‘The marae is doing such amazing work and we really wanted to help them out and ensure they can carry on with the work they are doing for the community,’’ Lorraine Marshall from Harcourts says.

The playhouse was delivered to the school by crane and students have been busy painting and working on it before it goes to auction. A team of artists from the school have designed a special mural on the exterior of the house.

The Wendy House will be auctioned at 17 Stokes Rd on August 25 at 5:30pm. Donate at givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/ help4thehomeless
