Suburbs a good ‘test’

Papatoetoe are hoping the change to Auckland club cricket’s two day format will bring a change in fortunes.

They head into their first round of game for the Hedley Howarth Trophy against Suburbs New Lynn at the Papatoetoe Recreation Ground in Hunters Corner on Saturday low on confidence and desperate for a decent performanc­e.

Each of their recognised batsmen will be looking to spend time in the middle accumulati­ng runs and rediscover­ing their touch, aspects of their game that deserted them in their third round one day championsh­ip match against Auckland University at home last Saturday.

The batsmen failed to score enough runs to give their bowlers a crack at defending and they lost by a humiliatin­g seven wickets as a consequenc­e.

Papatoetoe made it to 44 without loss before the wickets started tumbling. They were eventually dismissed for a meagre 128, a target the inform Auckland University who sit second in their pool chased down with the
