Manukau and Papakura Courier

Champs ousted from T20 comp

- ALAN APTED

Karaka and Pukekohe-Metro are into Counties Manukau club cricket’s Twenty20 final.

The pair won both games in a re-modelled draw which saw the last round of games at Bruce Pulman Park, Papakura played in the morning slot and semi-finals in the afternoon.

Pukekohe-Metro dashed Manukau’s chances of repeating the treble by beating last season’s chart-toppers twice in a day.

Manukau didn’t control Pukekohe-Metro in any aspect but they were particularly disappointing in their fielding, grassing several key chances.

Karaka was equally impressive snaring 17 wickets on the day and losing just three in having successes over Waiuku and Papakura.

The loveable storyline of the long weekend was United Cricket Club’s first premiership win.

They beat Waiuku by nine wickets in the decider for fifth /sixth.

The Twenty20 final and playoff for third and fourth will be played at later date as teams prepare for the start of the one day championship on Saturday.
