Proud to be a Kiwi on Anzac Day

- SIR PETER LEITCH

Anzac Day made me so proud to be a Kiwi, watching all those people turn out to honour our servicemen and women.

Anzac Day commemorations continue to grow and I think that is fabulous because it shows younger people, who perhaps did not grow up with war like many of us did, want to recognise and honour the sacrifices so many made. Of course my Anzac Day did not end the way I hoped it would, with the Warriors losing 20-14 to the Storm in a wonderful game of league. I was left deflated because it was a terrific effort from our boys, and I knew they would be in the dressing rooms bitterly disappointed they were not able to get the job done. But it was much improved showing on previous efforts and if we can put on another performance like that this weekend against the Rooster, we might finally get a bit of luck go our way.

It was great to see Ben Matulino back after such a long time out of the game.

Don’t quit on my Warriors just yet. Sure we are struggling, but that was a much better outing and I do believe better things are around the corner. Starting this weekend, so go the Mighty Vodafone Warriors.
