Ta¯huhu’s upgrade

each park with its own little council, where maintaining each trailer park would be a community effort.

3) Start building up... It’s so simple. In building up, you obtain more properties on the one site, just not a single dwelling.

4) ta¯huhu needs our town clock fixed. It only stopped working after a power cut, so I’m sure getting it going is an easy process.

5) Families in the area want a skate park for their kids, why should they have to travel to Manukau to get a decent skate in.

With some of that $17 million the council could actually heal and create new possibilities for the people of ta¯huhu, putting a plaster on ta¯huhu, is not fixing the infection.

Sharon Bragg ta¯huhu BOARD SHOULD CONSULT MORE

The proposal to upgrade the town centre has a number of negatives. The removal of 117 carparks; the widening of footpaths to provide for tree planting; the narrowing of streets which will make parking difficult; the change of street layout to prevent trucks turning left from Princes Street are some. This has the support of our Local Board. What discussion did the Board have with the local community and business owners and with what result? Does the Town Centre belong to, and is part of the local community, or is the Local Board able to dictate its development? ta¯huhu is almost totally reliant upon shoppers and others from other areas who need ease of access and parking, yet, shopkeepers and business owners had no say in developing the proposal. A better starting point would have been to ask the community and business owners for their views on the changes needed to the town centre rather than presenting them with a completed proposal including design plans. Community involvement begins at the start not near the end of the process when the Board and Council defend their position rather than listen to the community.
