What’s been the biggest change in home gardening in the past 20 years?
The use of native plants in the garden. This is now a world-wide horticultural movement.
What makes you roll your eyes in a garden? Statues of cherubs. What gardening tool could you not live without?
Hori-hori, weeding knife.
Weeds: weed killer or by hand? Hand weeding every time. What is your favourite garden? And why?
Currently, the 50 gardens described in my new book GardenLust. [But] I am particularly fond of Paripuma here in Marlborough. It is a formal garden of New Zealand native plants. It has strong design and yet has a rare restraint.
