Whowill be king of the sandcastle?

Do you consider yourself a dab hand at building sandcastles, or maybe you just like mucking around at the beach?

A contest is being held this month to crown the region’s best sandcastle builder.

The Sport Tasman contest aims to add a bit of fun to the family-favourite beach activity by again turning it into a competition to find the masterpieces across the top of the south.

The contest kicked off in midDecember and runs until the end of January,

During this period friends, families or solo builders can create and photograph their castles for a chance to win spot prizes.

Sport Tasman community sport manager Lesley McIntosh says the rules for the contest are simple; sandcastles must be made of sand in either a sandpit or at the beach, although natural objects like wood, feathers, plants and shells can be used for decoration.

They must also be built by hand, with powered machinery not allowed.

To enter send a photograph of your sandcastle to reception@sporttasman.org.nz by February 1.

The winning entry and others will feature on Sport Tasman’s Facebook page.

Entry is free to Marlborough, Nelson, Tasman, Kaikoura and Buller residents, but all entrants must register at sporttasman.org.nz/sandcastle.
