Keeping it classic

They are a common sight across the country, peeking out from dilapidated sheds or rusting slowly in paddocks.

A Blenheim author has captured tales of these vintage trucks and the history which makes then special.

Steve Reid’s latest book, In Vintage Trucks and Commercials — Kiwi Collection, showcases the hard work and dedication carried out by dedicated fans.

For Steve, who owns and works at Petrolhead barbers in Blenheim, the book is the culmination of a passion for all kinds of vintage cars.

He says he has spent the last year researching his book.

The book shares the histories and the commitment behind the restoration of many old ‘‘workhorses’’ including Fords, Bedfords, Diamond Ts, Internationals, Commers, Austins, Leylands, a Studebaker, a Plymouth Fargo and a Walker Electric.

Steve Reid is the author of 2013 title Veteran Cars; Amazing New Zealand Collections; and Vintage Car Collections (2014) and is a regular contributor to Classic Car magazine.

He says cars have always been a passion for him and he still gets a buzz out of seeing his name in print.

Steve has owned 44 Zephyrs in his time and although most were bought for parts, he says he remembers each one.

The book is due for publication later this month.
