Summit Marlborough Heritage Festival

The mont-long Summit Marlborough Heritage Festival starts this weekend. On Sunday there is a talk on Future Projects for Heritage in Marlborough with John Orchard, Steve Austin and the Marlborough Heritage Trust, 1pm-3pm at Marlborough Museum Theatre. There is also a Pirate School on the Edward Fox, (today and tomorrow; 9 to 5pm); an exhibition of Peach Eaton’swork (Marlborough Museum foyer; Sunday, 2pm); an Introduction to Family Resources session with the Blenheim Family History Group, Sunday, Blenheim Family History Clubrooms, BrayshawPark, 12.45pm; the opening of theWantwood Room, with Devonshire tea and a BBQ, 1.30pm on Sunday at theWantwood Room, Morse St, Wairau Valley; and don’t miss Favourite Hymns with Barry Parker at the Old Tua Marina Church 3pm to 4.30pm on Sunday. Robert Craven died in September last year.

‘‘He had no other living relatives in the area, so whoever cleaned up his estate must have found this, and thought it belonged with Morrinsville Museum.’’

Ross said the current owners of Stronsay Station and living members of the Cummings family had been visiting the museum to look at the newly-found photographs, and to help name some of those pictured.

‘‘It’s been great to have people from the family come by and help give names to the faces. It just amazes them that this collection relates to their family, their station, and their farm ... And now it has come back home.’’
