Blenheim’s newest cafe/restaurant is expected to open next month, with plans to cater to a wide variety of tastes.

The Next Door Cafe, or TNDC as the sign says, is moving into the former Old Bank Cafe and Bar premises on Cleghorn St, in Redwoodtown.

‘‘We are getting a lot of comments and well wishes from the locals,’’ says Kishore.

‘‘It’s lovely to see so much support for us.’’

Kishore, who used to work at Raupo (now named Saveur), says he always wanted to run his own place, like he did in India.

‘‘I opened a place in India with the same name,’’ Kishore says.

‘‘This time I was inspired to do the same thing with a Kiwi flavour during the day, and Indian food at night.’’

The new spot will offer New Zealand-style brunch in the morning, cafe-style lunches in the afternoons, and traditional Indian cuisine in the evenings.

‘‘My idea was to not complicate

BROTHERS WIN IN THE RING

It may have been their first boxing competition, but Picton brothers Soldier and Stallion Huntley managed to both walk away winners. Brothers Soldier, 12, and Stallion, 11, travelled to Christchurch last weekend to compete in the South Island Novice Boxing Champs. Both brothers won their weight divisions – Stallion in the mini-cadet debut weight class (up to 44kg) and Soldier in the cadet debut weight class (up to 46kg). They only had to beat one other competitor each to win. Both won unanimously after three, one and a half minute rounds. Soldier fought first against Lewis O’Malley-Scott from the Hammerhead Club in Dunedin. Stallion followed, beating Azury Ormsby from the Woolston Boxing Club in Christchurch. Their mum, Stacey Huntley, says the boys were "still so proud and excited about themselves". The brothers’ coach Shayne Olsen hopes to enter them into the National Boxing Champs next year.
