Marlborough Express - Weekend Express

From the President’s Desk

-

At the end of this month of February, Grey Power Marlborough is entering a team of walkers in the Relay for Life raising funds for the Cancer Society.

The Marlborough Cancer Society raises money from public donations. It has no government funding.

I support our Cancer Society. It has served me personally very well, and many others. It fulfils a role which is greatly needed.

I must enter a disclaimer here. I am a cancer survivor twice over. I am recovered and well.

Cancer is a disease which knows no age limit, no barriers of sex or wealth.

It is predominantly a disease of older people, which is why I believe that Grey Power should be involved in raising money for, and furthering the good work of, the Cancer Society; 80 per cent of cancer sufferers are in Grey Power’s 50-plus age group.

This year at our AGM I will be stepping down from the presidency of Grey Power Marlborough.

It was not a role that I actively sought at first, stepping up from the vice-presidency upon the illness of my predecessor.

My health is good and so is the health of Grey Power Marlborough.

After four years it is time for new energy, skills and purpose.

I have enjoyed the role and I hope performed it satisfactorily enough.

Our committee works well together and our advocacy work and financial benefits mean our association is maintaining its high membership.

I thank you for your support. I hope that in turn you can support both the Cancer Society by donating to it and Grey Power Marlborough by renewing your membership and recommending it to others.

You might even consider joining our committee in its good work!
