Senior ranks bolstered for 2019 at Waitohi

-

There has been a lot of hard work going on among the senior group at Waitohi as this year they are fielding both Division One and Two sides, whereas they have had only one senior side in recent years.

Even so, there have been a number of players lost from last season, who had formed a solid base for the senior ranks. The club are bolstering their playing roster at the moment though, so they can call on around 20 players for each team come game time.

This means they have plenty of opportunities for players, so if you are in the Picton or Marlborough Sounds areas and feel like dusting your boots off and getting back on the field, or even just volunteering for your local club, you are more than welcome to make contact.

The club are also keen to work with other clubs to give some players some top-flight experience that may be lack for opportunities at their home club.

The Division One side will be managed by Diane Ivamy, a very experienced life member of the club whose consistent commitment to Waitohi is very much appreciated.

The JAB junior ranks are looking very strong, and a whole new committee is overseeing preparations for the upcoming season. The previous committee had stood for a good number of years but the new committee has hit the ground running with strong fundraising and outreach since November.

The club have teams in under 6s up to under 10s and are very close to an under 12 team if any 11 or 12 year olds in the area are keen to join. Waitohi are also fielding an under 16 team in the Tasman league this year, which is a great addition as it provides opportunities for youngsters to play for the club in between those primary school age teams, before they make it to the senior ranks.
