Faulkner secretary on national board
Grey Power Marlborough president Graeme Faulkner has become the secretary of the National Board. This follows the election of previous secretary Jan Pentecost as national president of Grey Power.
This has left Grey Power Marlborough needing a replacement for Graeme Faulkner as the Zone 5 Representative on the Grey Power Federation Board.
Zone 5 comprises Marlborough, Nelson, Golden Bay, and the West Coast. The zone has 25 per cent of the national membership; sixth out of 74 associations.
The Marlborough region gets a stronger voice at national level with Faulkner’s appointment as secretary, said publicity officer Brian McNamara, who has had the ‘‘honour’’ of being appointed as his deputy into his place until at least the Zone 5 AGM early 2021.
The board meetings will now take place in Wellington close to the seat of power in government, where Grey Power can continue its work as advocates for citizens aged over 50.
‘‘As our age group moves towards retirement years in even greater numbers, the need for well-researched and honest dealings and discussions with government will also increase, in order to be better able to represent our seniors’ needs,’’ he said.
‘‘We encourage you, if you are 50 years old or above, or near enough to be thinking of how best your later years will be served, to consider joining Grey Power Marlborough next year as a New Year’s resolution. The benefits and the rewards are great as we present a strong voice to business, local and central government, representing you and your age cohort.’’
