Free finals tickets for Tasman Makos fans

-

Tasman Makos fans rejoice, you and your friends could be heading to the Mitre 10 Cup final for free.

Two hundred free tickets to the final in Christchurch are up for grabs at No. 4 Boutique, in Blenheim, from 10am on Wednesday.

Owner Hayley MacDonald said there was no catch, only that people visiting the store were cheering for the right team in Saturday’s season climax.

‘‘If you’re a Makos fan, for sure, come on in,’’ she said.

‘‘You cannot be a Canterbury supporter.

‘‘It’s purely for support, it’s about having a home presence for the boys on the day.’’

MacDonald’s husband Leon was head coach of the team.

Her husband and the team had been focused and excited in their preparations for game day, MacDonald said.

‘‘They’re cool, calm and collected,’’ she said. ‘‘They’re a very young team and they’ve worked very hard and done well. There is certainly a great team culture, we’re hoping for a win.’’

MacDonald said she was giving out a maximum of four tickets per person. The tickets were allocated to the store by a Nelson business owner who provided a further 1300 tickets to businesses on the other side of the hill.

The Car Company owner Shane Drummond, a self-proclaimed rugby nut, said he wanted a decent contingent of supporters for the final of the Mitre 10 Cup competition in Christchurch this weekend.

‘‘For most of the away games we’ve had this year, we’ve had limited support and yet they’ve done so well,’’ he said. ’’There is still lots of passionate people in Blenheim too so we’ll send them a couple.

‘‘I’ve been a board member and the president of Tasman as well as a sponsor from day one so I’m probably the most passionate Tasman supporter in this town and I’m just so keen for them to get deserved support.’’

Drummond hoped the offer of a free ticket would entice supporters to get their fins up for the team.

‘‘If I say, ‘come in and get a free one’ then it will probably encourage more people to go and it already has, I’ve got neighbours and different people who are going,’’ he said.

Drummond understood that getting to the team’s away games was a ‘‘real drama’’ so he wanted to make it as easy as possible for them.

‘‘I’ve already checked, there’s plenty of accommodation.’’

Drummond would not disclose how much he spent on the tickets.

According to TicketDirect adult tickets to the final cost between $18 and $36, while children’s started at $5.50.
