Dodson on target with nomination
Fullbore rifle shooter Malcolm Dodson has been nominated for the 2016 Marlborough Sports Awards, to be held at the Marlborough Convention Centre on November 21.
The long-serving competitor achieved a life-long aim in January when he claimed the New Zealand Championship and with it, the highly-prestigious Ballinger Belt, the country’s oldest sporting trophy.
In the lead-up event to the Belt, the Masefield Belt, Dodson finished fourth, then went on to take out the Grand Aggregate, which is the aggregate of the Masefield and Ballinger Belt series.
He also won the Long Range Aggregate, shot over 900 and 1000 yard matches during the Ballinger Belt series.
His success did not finish there. He top scored overall in the North Island v South Island match held at the National Championships.
Dodson coached, captained and shot in the Kaituna-Blenheim Club team during their successful defence of the National Interclub Postal match in May 2016.
He filled the same roles in the Marlborough team which won the inter association match between Marlborough, Wellington and Canterbury for the first time since 1986.
Capping a superb year was his election as national president in January 2016.
His nomination is sponsored by Blenheim Round Table 30.
