Picton is on the ‘UP’

It was with bitter disappoint­ment that I read the front page headline ( Marlboroug­h Express, April 21, 2017) ‘A winter more miserable’.

The low point in recent times in Picton was when there was uncertaint­y over the location of the ferry terminals. Since that issue has been resolved, some years ago, Picton has been a town on the ‘UP’.

Last winter was one of the best for foreign visitors, with the town looking busy most of the ‘off season’.

There has been a big increase in cruise ships from less than a handful to 48 next season, starting in October.

Whilst the effects of the closure of State Highway 1 on winter activity is unknown, there are still highlights to look forward to. The Lions are touring in June and July, and Picton has many winter events planned. There are also new residents from the cities that are spending money around town and the atmosphere in town has been vibrant.
