Happy New Year

-

With no sign of our supposed sidekicks vampires, zombies and werewolves those of us who observe Nature’s Calendar will celebrate Hallowe’en i.e. All Hallows’ Eve on April 30. It is the first of two or three Autumn festival days which are the most sacred of all our celebrations.

Being the end of the year and marking mid-Autumn it is our New Year’s Eve, Last Light, Haratura and Celtic Samhein. It brings in All Hallow’s Day, SeedFall, Paengawhawha and New Year’s Day on May 1. And, this year, it brings in a new era for MEx. Appropriately so close to Anzac Day All Hallow’s Eve acknowledges departed loved ones and, with their demise, we will include the Tuesday and Thursday editions of MEx.

Thus the sombre side is offset by the lighter, as is the way of Nature.

‘‘arvensis. You said it was Mrs Mac’s birthday on May 1st. Who’s she?’’
