Netballers venture outside
They may have moved outside for a round, but the song remained the same for Marlborough’s premier netballers on Saturday.
Due to the stadium being unavailable on Tuesday, Lansdowne Park was the venue for the latest chapter in the premier competition.
However, the shift into the open air made little difference to the final outcomes, Tokomaru Crafar Crouch, Harlequins Radich Law and Marlborough Girls’ College NZ King Salmon notching relatively comfortable victories.
Toko maintained their unbeaten run through the second round with a 61-33 victory over Pelorus Edridge Contracting, win- ning every quarter as Jess Prosser nailed 45 of her 50 goal attempts.
Despite falling in the slippery conditions, Prosser recovered to maintain her high shooting percentage, making good use of the imbalance in possession her side enjoyed.
Alex Cambie worked hard in defence to effect turnover with help from Meighan Taylor.
Pelorus struggled initially but improved as the game wore on, dropping in 33 goals for a good return.
Harlequins rebounded quickly from their loss to Toko on Tuesday to see off SMOG HR Construction 47-37.
Harlequins won the first three quarters to hold a 16-goal lead before dropping their guard in the final 15 minutes as SMOG finished strongly to reduce the final margin to 10.
Sarah Higgins, at goal defence battled hard for Quins before succumbing to an ankle injury, while youngsters Liv Hodson and Olivia Pinkerton stepped up.
A bonus for Quins was the return to action of shooter Paige Lovell.MGC scored a 54-33 win over Tokomaru Oxleys Picton in the late game.
