Val Symes named top bowler

- PETER JONES

Val Symes is Bowls Marlborough’s bowler of the year.

Consistent performances on both the club and representative scene earned Symes the top award at the Bowls Marlborough end-ofseason presentations on Sunday June 18 at the Blenheim club.

A particular highlight of a busy and fruitful year came when the Riverside club bowler joined forces with her husband Maurice to take out the national 2x4x2 mixed pairs championship. In March, the Marlborough couple beat Rob Ashton and Linda Ralph, from the Carlton-Cornwall club in Auckland, 19-15 at the Taieri Bowling Club, near Dunedin, to claim the prestigious title. Bowls Marlborough awards Bowls NZ national interclub representatives.
