Proposed drydock

Marlborough Express - - COMMENT&OPINION -

Re: Drydock pegged for Picton, Express, September 13. I read this story with something akin to dismay.

Why on Earth would anybody propose to put a major ship-repair facility in the Marlborough Sounds, one of New Zealand’s, in fact the world’s, last pristine marine waterways?

Surely Wellington Harbour would be better suited to an enterprise such as this; I remember a floating dock that was visible from the trains when coming into the city from the Hutt Valley back in the ’60s.

We have the log loading from here now with the associated traffic and pollution, not to mention the ever-increasing number of cruise boats calling, why get greedy?
