Hockey hopefuls

Two Tasman hockey teams are contesting the national senior tournament which began in Wellington yesterday. The event runs alongside the NHL Tournament and the Tasman hockey fraternity are excited to have both a women’s and men’s team competing. The women’s team is a mix of Marlborough, Nelson, West Coast and Buller players. The squad is: Pip Lunn, Stace Lloyd, Yvonne Boyd, Hannah Hocquard, Brooke Young, Kate Morrow, Tanya Hawley, Hannah Climo, Kate Kersten, Aimee Kersten, Brenna Ellis, Neave Ellis, Kate Chapman, Ruby Meehan, Kirsty McCombe, Alice Coll, Tayla Gibson. Management: Denise Lloyd, Paul Jones. They are in a pool with Canterbury, Wairarapa and Tauranga, their first opponent. The men’s team are pooled with Northland, who they meet first, Otago, the NZ Defence Force, Waikato and Wellington. The squad comprises: Matt Brydon, John McKinnon, Grant McMillan, Jack Boon, Dave Mehlhopt, Gabes Kepes, Sam Solly, Cameron Sinclair, Toby Bowden, Pat O’Connor-Lea, Brendon Burnett, Paul Muncaster, Scott Barnett, Jake Inwood, Howie Wilson, Alex Patterson, Ben Pratt, Shaun Gibson.
