Beaten for saying no to sex act

-

A Blenheim man who was refused oral sex by his partner rubbed dog poo on her face during a violent attack.

Tui Simon Kara, 38, got angry when the woman would not participate and slapped her to the ground.

He then rubbed dog poo on her face before slapping her again, dragging her down the driveway, punching her three times in the face, and leaving her at the side of the road.

His neighbours called police after the attack on August 30 while Kara left for a friend’s house.

The woman had swelling and cuts to her face and was taken to hospital. She told police she wanted a protection order to prevent him from seeing her or their children, the summary said.

When spoken to by police, Kara initially denied hitting the woman, but admitted assault with intent to injure at the Blenheim District Court on Monday.

Police had twice previously been called to the house for family violence, the summary said.

His lawyer Rennie Gould said Kara had since been living in Hastings with his parents.

Judge Jan Kelly ordered the Hastings property be assessed for home detention.

Gould said it was possible the couple would get back together, in which case the sentence could be served at their house in Blenheim.

Judge Kelly convicted and remanded Kara on bail to October 19.
