Udy earns squash nomination
A busy and successful year on the squash courts has earned Quinn Udy the male squash nomination for the 2017 Marlborough Sports Awards.
The 18-year-old has played nearly 70 competitive matches during the judging year.
The highlight of his year came in July 2017 when he represented New Zealand at the World Junior Championships in Tauranga.
In September, 2016, he won the senior men’s title at the Marlborough Squash Rackets Club championships then, a month later, was invited to join the NZ Young Kiwi Squad, a group aimed at developing players to become the professionals of the future.
In March, 2017, Udy finished second at the Marlborough Open, also finishing runner-up at the Christchurch Pre-Season event.
In April he stepped up to national level, finishing fourth at the New Zealand Junior Open, then grabbing a silver medal in the under-19 boys grade at the Oceania Junior Age Group champs.
His efforts clinched his selection in the six-strong national team to compete at the the world junior champs in July, where he finished 61st.
In August, Udy played for the Canterbury senior men’s team in the National Teams Championship, winning all his matches.
