- PETER JONES

Well-travelled rider Jason Christie is the road cycling nominee for the 2017 Marlborough Sports Awards, to be staged at the Marlborough Convention Centre on November 20.

The 26-year-old’s stellar year began in September with a 14th placing on general classification during the Tour of China.

He followed that up in November by again excelling with a 15th position on GC in the five-day Tour of Fuzhou.

Back on home soil in January, Christie picked up silver medals in both the time trial and road race at the New Zealand national championships.

In February, the Cuddon Cyc- ling Marlborough rider competed in the Sun Tour, in Victoria, Australia, coming home 20th on general classification, four and a half minutes behind the overall victor and the leading New Zealand rider.

In March, Christie returned to Marlborough and competed in the Forrest Estate Grape Ride, winning the elite men’s race on the finish line but being relegated to second after a protest.

Later in the month he attended the Oceania Continental Championships in Australia, and continued to perform admirably by finishing fourth in the time trial.

He has been riding for Team Sapura Cycling this year, producing some top results in a mixture of tours worldwide.

His nomination is sponsored by Cuddon Ltd.
