Williamson to fore in IPL numbers game

-

with 13 in 10 matches. Umesh Yadav and Hardik Pandya have 14 a piece, while Boult is joined by Rashid Khan and Mayank Markande on 13 wickets.

Fellow left-armer Mitchell Mcclenaghan has taken wickets at a better rate than Boult with his Mumbai Indians, although he’s played two fewer games.

The Auckland paceman has 11 wickets in eight games, at a strikerate of just 15.81. And with an economy rate of 8.37, Mcclenaghan has been one of the elite quicks in the 2018 tournament.

With the bat, Williamson’s performances are highlighted by the dearth of runs from other Kiwi blades.

Only Brendon Mccullum has more than 100 runs for the tournament, other than Williamson, on 127 from 6 matches. He has a top score of 42, but has been scoring at a decent clip, with a strikerate of 144.31.

It’s been Williamson’s consistency, rather than his ability to score quickly, which has hurt his opponents.

While his strikerate is 131.83, which isn’t sluggish by any means, the fact he has five 50s in 10 innings shows his consistency.

And while Williamson isn’t scoring as fast as some other players, like AB de Villiers, he has showed an ability to destroy a bowler in a one-off over. Twice Williamson has scored 21 off an over this season.

Williamson hasn’t been able to kick on to a big personal score.

His Sunrisers are top of the IPL table with eight wins in 10 matches, while Mcclenaghan and the Indians are fifth, and Boult’s Royals are last.
