‘Flirty’ Archie charms Archbishop

-

to at last get a good look at Archie Mountbattenwindsor, said he bore a startling resemblance to his father at the same age.

The Duchess described her son as ‘‘an old soul’’, while Archbishop Tutu’s daughter, clearly smitten, insisted the infant preferred women to men.

The appearance of Archie on the third day of the Sussexes’ southern African tour was followed by the Duchess’s first solo engagement, a meeting with ‘‘inspiring’’ businesswomen in Cape Town.

The duchess, 38, said she had a lot to contend with ‘‘being a working mum and travelling as well with a baby,’’ adding: ‘‘My goodness it’s a lot, but it’s all so exciting.

‘‘There are days when it’s a lot to juggle but then you meet someone, you have an impact on them and you say ’ah-ha’, and it’s so rewarding.’’

Later, she gave a large holdall filled with baby clothes, including a tiny vest with the Invictus Games logo on it, to mothers2mothers, a charity supporting mothers with HIV.

Archie was the star of the show at the meeting at the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, in Cape Town.

Wearing blue-striped dungarees, said to be from high street chain H & M, he smiled and laughed.

It prompted Thandeka Tutu Gxashe, Archbishop Tutu’s daughter, to suggest the boy must have cameras in his genes. His father, after all, is a much photographed prince and his mother an actress.

Looking at Archie, she said: ‘‘You like me the best. You like the ladies better,’’ to which the duchess responded: ‘‘He likes to flirt.’’

The duke described his son as ‘‘so busy, constantly wanting to stand’’ while the archbishop said the baby seemed to understand when they were talking about him. The duchess said: ‘‘I know. He’s an old soul.’’

The duke, 35, added: ‘‘He knows exactly what’s going on.’’ – Telegraph Group
