Shop reopens after car crash

The owner of a Blenheim shop might have lost stock after a car came ploughing through her front doors, but she is staying positive thanks to local support.

Anna Pettersson, who owns #OVERFLOW on Market St, was alone in her store when a car crashed through it at 10.20am on Wednesday.

The car went some metres into the shop and she had to run out of the car’s way which narrowly missed her.

‘‘I thought it was a ram raid at first . . . and then I quickly worked out it was just an old man,’’ Pettersson said.

After working till 3am to clean up the store, the shop was reopened for business by 10am yesterday.

Pettersson said she was still a little shaken but was thankful no-one else was in the store at the time of the crash.

The shop, which stocks skatewear as well as skateboards, and is even home to a half pipe, often has children who come in for a chat.

‘‘I usually have around 10 plus people in my store at that time at this time of year,’’ Pettersson said.

She understood the crash happened after the white Toyota Lexus, which ended up in her shop, reversed into a blue car outside on Market St before accelerating onto the footpath and crashing into the shop. No one was injured in the accident.

Pettersson suffered a bruise on her arm from the incident, but joked she might have some whiplash ‘‘from the parkour’’.

Her front display table was broken so she had replaced it and revamped it with some police emergency tape for decoration.

‘‘The boom box survived, it ended up on his bonnet. I repaired the aerial and a couple of buttons are loose but it works.’’
