Accused has words with judge

-

Thompson hadn’t appeared in court in person since first being charged, and he was yet to enter pleas to any of the numerous charges he faced, which included assault by stabbing/ cutting and threatening to kill/ do grievous bodily harm.

At a previous court hearing on May 23, Thompson addressed the judge by saying ‘‘Ms Rielly, my sweetheart, how are you?’’, proceeded to call her a ‘‘witch in black’’, swore at court staff and told his lawyer to ‘‘go hard’’.

As he appeared on-screen in front of the courtroom on Monday, Judge Jo Rielly asked him: ‘‘Mr Thompson, can you see and hear me?,’’ to which he replied ‘‘I do not accept that name, I am the beneficiary of the Kane Thompson trust’’.

‘‘The law gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly, I’m not interested in your fake justice Ms Rielly,’’ he said.

When the judge tried to address him by his name again, he said’’: ‘‘No, I don’t accept that name Jo, you know this.

‘‘You’re an ex-police prosecutor who is corrupt as they come.’’

Judge Rielly replied, saying: ‘‘Don’t call me by that name please Mr Thompson, you need to have some respect.’’

‘‘No, no, I’m not going to respect Jo Rielly, you’re committing fraud and treason right now, I do not accept that name, I am the beneficiary of the Kane Thompson trust,’’ Thompson said.

Judge Rielly then told Thompson his hearing would be conducted in his absence, before the audiovisual link was turned off.

Two section 38 reports were ordered by the judge to assess whether Thompson was fit to stand trial, and he was remanded in custody until August 1 at 11am.

Thompson would also proceed without a lawyer assigned to his case.
