Revamped hot springs ready for an open day

-

It’s been one year since the new owners at Opal Hot Springs renovated and revitalised the attraction that people travel from all over the country to see and now they are celebrating their milestone with an open day on Saturday, March 3.

Three years ago George and Rachel Helms fell in love with the 6-hectare grounds that offer hot mineral outdoor and private pools, a range of accommodation, picnic areas and walks, after they had a holiday there.

‘‘Owning a motor camp had always been a dream of mine, so when we came here for a holiday, I just loved it,’’ Mr Helms said.

‘‘I have enjoyed every minute of being the owner. It doesn’t feel like a job because it is fun and every day is different.’’

With a vision to once again make Opal Hot Springs a favourite tourist destination with a friendly atmosphere, they quickly got to work and have had a significant increase in visitors ever since.

Painting amenities, tidying gardens and fences, refurbishing the motels with new carpet and furniture, and general maintenance were all part of the task before them.

‘‘We have had so many good reviews and comments in our visitors’ book now, I can’t believe how much we have actually achieved,’’ Mr Helms said.

‘‘So many people get out of their vehicles when leaving and thank us.

‘‘It makes us realise we are heading in the right direction,’’ he said.

They have also refreshed the shop with more stock; now people can walk right into it and have a look around.

Opal Hot Springs has facilities for barbecues, birthday parties, conferences and more.

It offers a range of pools including a 25m lane pool, two thermal pools and the private natural 40 degree Celsius Ramaroa pool with new mood lighting which is popular with users.

Opal Hot Springs is open daily 9am to 9pm.
