Trot on in for early fries

-

‘‘ We’re going to ride Alonzo bareback down to Mcdonald’s for breakfast tomorrow morning in our pyjamas,’’ said Bayley Mackie. Yeah, right. But that is exactly what she and her best friend Jess Smitstra did.

An accomplished young equestrian, Bayley and her friend rose early, donned fluffy dressing gowns splattered with hearts and cherries, and rode her trusty 23- year- old eventer (who has won more ribbons than you can poke a stick at) the 1km journey along Peria Rd to their favourite breakfast destination.

Gloria, the neighbour’s dog with a penchant for fries, hitched an armchair ride and the trio strode into the drive-in like it was just another Saturday.

‘‘ Here’s Alonzo’s eftpos card, the pin is ‘ PONY’’’, they giggled after placing the order with a somewhat wideeyed attendant.

The adjoining skateboard park provided a good spot for the girls to dismount and refuel on hash browns, fries and hot chocolates before re-mounting and riding out of town.

‘‘Holy, there’s a horse at Mcdonald’s,’’ a pedestrian on his mobile phone was heard to say.

‘‘ Yeah, right,’’ was most likely the reply.
