Golfers chip in to raise funds for new wing

Mata­mata’s golfers are gear­ing up for the fourth an­nual TRAC Sports Bar char­ity golf tour­na­ment next Fri­day, May 11.

Teams of four will be tak­ing to the greens of Mata­mata Golf Club to take part in the am­brose com­pe­ti­tion.

Ma­jor spon­sor TRAC Sports Bar owner Tony Bai­ley said all pro­ceeds from the tour­na­ment would go to­wards Pohlen Hospi­tal. ‘‘It’s such a good cause. A lot of busi­nesses in Mata­mata get in be­hind the tour­na­ment to show sup­port for Pohlen.’’

The New Zealand Com­mu­nity Trust has al­ready pledged a sig­nif­i­cant do­na­tion to the hospi­tal and Mr Bai­ley hopes to see an ex­tra few thou­sand made on the day.

‘‘Ev­ery year we seem to be in­creas­ing the amount of fundrais­ing. It’s re­ally good,’’ said Mr Bai­ley.

Keith Lunn of BNZ bank is also a ma­jor spon­sor and runs the tour­na­ment on the day.

The en­try fee is $100 for a team of four, with all pro­ceeds go­ing to­wards Pohlen Hospi­tal.
