Golfers chip in to raise funds for new wing

- By NICOLA STEWART

Matamata’s golfers are gearing up for the fourth annual TRAC Sports Bar charity golf tournament next Friday, May 11.

Teams of four will be taking to the greens of Matamata Golf Club to take part in the ambrose competition.

Major sponsor TRAC Sports Bar owner Tony Bailey said all proceeds from the tournament would go towards Pohlen Hospital. ‘‘It’s such a good cause. A lot of businesses in Matamata get in behind the tournament to show support for Pohlen.’’

The New Zealand Community Trust has already pledged a significant donation to the hospital and Mr Bailey hopes to see an extra few thousand made on the day.

‘‘Every year we seem to be increasing the amount of fundraising. It’s really good,’’ said Mr Bailey.

Keith Lunn of BNZ bank is also a major sponsor and runs the tournament on the day.

The entry fee is $100 for a team of four, with all proceeds going towards Pohlen Hospital.

Entry forms are available at the golf club, TRAC Sports Bar and the TAB. For more information call Mr Bailey on 888 9012.
