Have a free blood pres­sure test

New World is call­ing for Mata­mata res­i­dents to get a free blood pres­sure check on Satur­day, May 12.

The free checks are avail­able at New World Mata­mata and are part of the Stroke Foun­da­tion’s na­tional Blood Pres­sure Aware­ness cam­paign aimed at low­er­ing blood pres­sure and re­duc­ing the risk of stroke for Ki­wis around the coun­try.

Zealand man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Steve An­der­son said: ‘‘This is the third year our New World stores have been sup­port­ing the cam­paign. We’re re­ally pleased to be able to do our part in help­ing the Stroke Foun­da­tion to raise aware­ness of the link be­tween high blood pres­sure and stroke by pro­vid­ing the lo­ca­tions for these free tests.’’

‘‘Be­ing 100 per cent New Zealand owned and op­er­ated, each of our stores is an in­te­gral part of their lo­cal com­mu­nity.

‘‘That’s why we’re call­ing on Mata­mata res­i­dents to pop down to New World Mata­mata on Satur­day, May 12 for a free, fast and pain­less blood pres­sure check,’’ said Mr An­der­son.

In­for­ma­tion about blood pres­sure and other risk fac­tors for stroke will be pro­vided dur­ing the check and peo­ple with raised blood pres­sure will be re­ferred to their GPS for med­i­cal ad­vice and treat­ment.

A full list of na­tion­wide test­ing sites is avail­able at www.stroke.org.nz.

Most sites will of­fer the free blood pres­sure tests be­tween 10am and 2pm but may op­er­ate for longer.
