MPS Korimako stings Wasps

-

On a crisp but clear Friday night the strong undefeated Hinuera Wasps lined up against MPS Korimako.

A fast flowing hockey game ensued with Matamata taking their goal opportunities courtesy of Lucas Mccloud.

Hinuera were held back by solid defence but had two very close attempts at goal.

A beautiful Saturday saw Firth Rangers start against Te Poi Combined. Although Firth got a smashing first goal by Troy Mercer, Te Poi reasserted themselves as the game went on and chipped away with three on the back of good linking passing by Te Poi forwards.

The other senior game was between Matamata sides Hihi and Piwakawaka.

The Fantails were looking for their first win but the Stitch Birds were having none of it and closed the door one up.

In the Junior section Te Poi Rangers and Te Poi Tigers fought hard for a win to the Tigers.

Matamata Kotare scored five against Hinuera Stingers’ two, while Hinuera Buzzy Bees reversed the trend, but in a near thing, against Matamata Tui. Caitlin Tidmarsh got the fair play award for Hinuera while Conrad Wilson was nominated for Matamata.

In a good defensive game Matamata Kiwi won over Wairere Walton Weta. Results: Seniors Hinuera Wasps 0 v MPS Korimako 2, Firth Rangers 1 v Te Poi Combined 3, MPS Hihi 1 v MPS Piwakawaka 0, WW Blue Sticks a bye.
