Talent amazes quest organiser

Originality won out at the finals of the 2012 Matamata College Talent Quest last week.

Sisters Narelle and Alicia Stewart were named overall winners, after judges commended the originality of their act.

The pair gave an acoustic performance of Call Your Girlfriend by Swedish recording artist Robyn, using plastic cups for percussion.

Fourteen acts were selected to compete in the finals, following five heats held over a week.

Organiser Laura Atkins said she was constantly impressed by the level of talent shown by the students.

‘‘Their talents never cease to amaze me,’’ she said.

‘‘ Especially on finals night – they had obviously put a lot of work into pre- paring their acts and getting them up to a performance level.’’

Winning pair: Overall winners Narelle and Alicia Stewart performed Call Your Girlfriend, a song by Swedish recording artist Robyn.

Liam Nelson accompanied several acts on the guitar.

Having fun: Brothers Ciaran and Aiden O’Malley kept the audience entertained as the hosts of the evening.
