Nominations sought for awards

-

Sport Waikato is looking to acknowledge 2012 sporting excellence in the region.

District Sports Awards nominations are now open until Friday, October 5.

Each Waikato district will have its own awards event with category winners going forward to be considered for the prestigious Brian Perry Waikato Regional Sports Awards, held on Thursday, January 31, 2013.

Sport Waikato general manager Mike Maguire said this year’s awards will follow on from the unpre- cedented success New Zealand had at the London Olympics.

“To be recognised in an Olympic year which garnered us a record medal victory is a special occasion for any local sportsman,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s time to showcase our sporting stars and also the people who dedicate their time to making sport happen in our region.”

Matamata-Piako District co-ordinator Ruth Stanley encourages each club, school and sports organisation to take the time to fill in a nomination form.

“We now have online nomination forms making it even easier for people to get their nominations through, the process is quick and efficient,” Mrs Stanley said.

District Sports Awards events will take place in Taupo, South Waikato, Waikato, Waipa, Matamata Piako, Waitomo, Hauraki and Otorohanga during November.

Nominations can be made online at sportwaikato. org. nz or on forms from Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha council offices.
