Golfers raise funds for IHC

-

Wild, occasionally wet and windy conditions did not deter a field of 88 participating in the annual Lions IHC Charity Golf Tournament on the weekend.

The tournament first began as a fundraiser for IHC in the 1960s.

On arrival, the players were greeted with a sumptuous morning tea, consisting of home baking prepared by a team of Lions ladies. At the end of a long day, there was an excellent lunch.

Scoring on the day was very good, with the top score of net 57 recorded by a local team, Barney’s Battlers. They were closely followed by local Lion Phil Metcalf’s team, Goughs from Ports of Auckland, Hemi TBS from Auckland and Norris’ Nomads, a mixed team of locals and visitors.

The tournament field included 38 players from the Ports of Auckland golfing fraternity. These golfers have supported the tournament for many years.

Three players arrived in style from Te Awamutu by helicopter.

Once again, the Matamata business community gave absolutely wonderful support to the event. The Lions Club of Matamata and the local IHC community thanks everyone most sincerely.
