Matamata beauty on world stage

- By NICOLA STEWART nicola.stewart@wrcn.co.nz

A young stable worker from Matamata will represent New Zealand next month at the Miss Bikini Universe pageant in Taiwan.

Brooke McNamara, 19, won the national title of Miss Bikini Universe at the Face of Beauty contest in Papakura last month.

It was just the second pageant she had entered – her first was earlier this year when she was crowned Miss Tauranga.

‘‘On the day I met so many wonderful girls that really helped me out... I have made some amazing friends,’’ she said.

‘‘To me, a beauty pageant is the most fun and the best way to meet people that you have things in common with.

‘‘ We all strive for the same goals and we are all there to support our charities.’’

Brooke has chosen to support women’s cancer charity Look Good Feel Better and local charity Alzheimers Waikato.

The Miss Bikini Universe pageant includes evening and national costume sections.

‘‘I’m a little bit nervous but the nerves usually kick in more a couple of days before I have to go.

‘‘I don’t really know what to expect.’’

Contestants are provided with return airfares, accommodation and meals but Brooke still needs to raise funds for the entry fees and other costs.

She is hosting a masquerade ball at the Matamata Club on August 24 and all proceeds will go towards the trip.

Brooke would like to thank The Formal Shop in Tauranga and MJ Hair and Makeup for sponsoring her at the Face of Beauty pageant.

For more information or to buy tickets to the ball contact Brooke through her official Facebook page Miss Bikini Universe NZ.
