Race in to book your Christmas knees-up

-

It may only be August, but hundreds of Matamata residents already have their Christmas party calendar date pencilled in.

Tickets to Matamata’s biggest Christmas event at Matamata Racecourse are selling quickly, with hospitality package sales up considerably compared with the same time last year.

Jaye Clark from Matamata Racing Club said the Christmas at the Races event was set to be not only the largest Christmas party in the region but also the most successful the club had ever held.

‘‘We’re finding that busi- nesses and groups of friends are looking for something more than a meal out for their Christmas gettogether,’’ she said.

‘‘ Many people only get one chance a year to properly celebrate with colleagues and friends and want an experience they can remember.

‘‘We’ve created a friendly festive atmosphere for absolutely anyone to enjoy the races and are looking forward to making it the best party Matamata has had in some time.’’

Part of a 55-event strong national series, Matamata Christmas at the Races features live music alongside a schedule of thrilling thoroughbred racing.

The event is becoming one of New Zealand’s most popular festive events.

Jaye said the huge number of people who rebooked for next year’s function immediately after attending was an indication that Christmas at the Races was a hot ticket for festive parties.

‘‘We’re thrilled that Christmas at the Races is getting bigger each year and we’re trying to increase capacity where possible, but to ensure a spot we recommend getting in early,’’ Jaye said.
