Prepare to be infected with the genealogy bug
Jan Gow QSM, a well known personality throughout the genealogy community, is coming to Matamata this Saturday.
Gow started her research in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City in 1981 where she arrived with no preparation, very little information and not a clue what to do.
Three days there and she was hooked on genealogy.
Over the next few years, Gow was treasurer, then president of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists (NZSG).
She started St Heliers and Panmure branches, tutored family history research at community colleges and the NZSG, has been owner of Beehive Books ( genealogy book shop) since 1987 and chief executive of Hooked on Genealogy Tours (1992) to name a few.
She was awarded a Queen’s Service Medal in 2012 for services to genealogy and was made a Fellow of the Society of Genealogists, London 2012.
Gow loves infecting others with the genealogy allergy.
Gow’s topics for the day include: How to Find the Roots and Fruits of Your Family Tree, Checking the Big 5, and Humpty Dumpty and Brick Walls.
All levels of researchers are being catered for from newbies to very experienced ‘‘genies’’.
