Matamata Chronicle

Thank you to many

-

Christmas is over again for another year but the Community Christmas dinner for 2014 was a great success. We didn’t have as many guests as previous years, but had 94 seated for dinner. Therefore there was plenty of food left over which was willingly taken home by guests and helpers. A special thanks to the helpers who gave up their Christmas to come and serve others on this special day.

Our guest speaker for the day was Colin Whyte, who spoke from the view point of a New Zealand military vet, how the politician speaks of war but a soldier talks of peace. He spoke of the two amazing peace happenings of World War I and the message of peace Samuel Marsden brought to New Zealand 200 years ago. A message that brought peace to warring Maori, that finally led to the message of peace in our local area as a result of Tarori and her Bible. Finally the greatest message of peace when God sent His son to bring peace to the individual, you and me.

Our special thanks to the following for the supply of the needs for the day: New World, Horse and Jockey, Export Meats, The Bakehouse, Pippins Orchard, The Vegie Bin, The Mighty Bakery, Baigent Motors, Matamata Caltex and Club, Tainui Press and Okoroire Callas. Our special thanks to service clubs and church, Matamata Kiwanis, Rotary, Inner Wheel, Focus and the Soul Church. Thank you also to the many individuals who helped by giving financially.

As a result of the great support we have received we are financially able to give back to community groups to encourage them in their support in this community.

If you would like to be part of the committee to help in the organisation of future successful Christmas dinners, please contact me on 888 4822.
