Matamata Golf hosts national foursomes
Matamata Golf Club is again hosting many of New Zealand’s top women golfers this weekend.
On Friday the New Zealand foursomes will be played for the fourth consecutive year at Matamata.
On the Saturday and Sunday the 41st Ruth Middleton Memorial tournament has attracted a great field. Leading the field are the Keh sisters – Wenyung + 3.5, Munchin + 2.8 and younger sister Siyi 0.8 is also one of the scratch handicappers. The top four seeds have been or are New Zealand representatives. They also appear in the top five of the New Zealand Order of Merit for 2015.
Last year’s winner Chantelle Cassidy (+ 1.9) will be challenged by Wenyung and Munchin as well as Omanu’s Alanna Campbell (+2.9) and Canadian visitor Josee Doyon, who is ranked in the top 50 amateurs in the United States. A large number of golfers from Auckland and North Harbour will again be taking part as well as Waikato’s representatives Fai Tongdesthri, Jill Morgan, Charlotte Willson, Zoe Huang, Deb Foster, Tessa McDonald and Kelly Nicholas.
All up there are 11 players on 0 or better and a further 35 on single figure handicaps. Leading the way for Matamata is Pam Wright (4.2). Sheelah Lamb, the tournament coordinator, will be playing for the 22nd consecutive year.
The foursomes commence at 8am on Friday with the top three combinations of Wenyung and Munchin Keh, Alanna Campbell and Siyi Keh and Ela Grimwood and Joanna Kim teeing off at 8.47am.
