Quilt sale benefits local charity

Hard work has literally paid off for the juniors of Matamata Christian School.

A homemade quilt made as a fundraiser by Matamata Christian School’s room one students, sold on TradeMe last week for $200.

The quilt was a term two class project, and a way for the students to do their part to fight poverty. Room one teacher Maria Persson says the money will go towards supporting families in financial hardship.

‘‘We may be making a school trip to a supermarket to purchase food for the Salvation Army food bank. It’s a real learning opportunity for the students to connect the learning between work output and income and the value of income in the form of groceries.

‘‘This is also a way for our students to put into practise being a servant and a good steward.

‘‘I’m thrilled with how the auction went, it’s a fabulous amount that will definitely support a family facing difficult times,’’ says Persson.

The fabric was donated by the school community and Persson says each child lovingly spent time stitching each piece to ensure it would look its very best.
