FROM THE NEWS DESK
This week we asked the local government candidates for the Matamata Ward to share their thoughts on the idea of building a new sports complex for the town, being proposed by Matamata Futures Trust. Most councillors like the idea but said they’d like a chance to read the consultation report compiled by the Giblin Group, which was commissioned by the trust. The report, in particular, gives details of four sites where the new complex could be built. It’s interesting to read that not all the candidates agree on where the sports complex could be built. Some are also worried about who is going to pay for the ongoing maintenance costs. You can read more about their thoughts on the matter on page 7. We also have an update on search for a person to manage the BMX track, the coming book fair, the Dalton’s Tulip Festival, a couple of Swifts football players turning heads and the latest on the coming Matamata A & P Show.
