Light party is alternative to halloween

Not into Halloween?

No problem, Matamata Christian School and Matamata Baptist Church are co-hosting a Light Party, a positive alternative to Halloween.

The Light Party, suitable for families will be held in the Baptist Church hall on Monday, October 31 from 5pm with plenty of family fun and lollies. Children are encouraged to dress up, as a hero or heroine. Scary costumes are discouraged.

Light Party co-ordinator Sarah Thurlow says the light party is ideal for parents who don’t like the ghoulish costumes associated with Halloween and don’t like to encourage children to knock on strangers doors asking for candy.

Planning for the Matamata Light Party has been underway for about a month, and it will include a sausage sizzle, bouncy castle and plenty of carnival challenges. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

She says children will be able to use lollies as payment to participate in carnival challenges, but they will have the opportunity to win them back.

Entry is by gold coin donation and as it’s all indoors, it will go ahead whatever the weather.
